This independent guide covers the open Cressvale County Commission seat in District 2. Democrat Martha Halenwick and Republican Nora Caldridge are seeking the seat in the November 3, 2026 general election. Neither candidate currently serves on the county commission.
Start with the race
The District 2 overview explains what the county commission does and traces the public campaign from the candidates’ March launches through their June questionnaires and endorsements. The candidate comparison puts their positions beside the same five subjects: housing, growth and land use, taxes and the budget, public safety and county health, and infrastructure coordination.
The sharpest choice is a recurring budget tradeoff. Halenwick would reduce the current sheriff operating baseline by $1.8 million and add the same amount to county health services. Caldridge would reduce county health services by $2.8 million, using $1.8 million for the sheriff’s expansion request and $1 million toward her property-tax target. Both candidates have described the service consequences they accept.
